London-based architects Alma-nac renovated the Basing Street Rooms, a four-storey Victorian residence, into a long-term hotel space for a record label.
The architects didn't take themselves too seriously with this project, installing multicolored herringbone patterns overtop of the parquet flooring. Keeping the client in mind, they also commissioned music memorabilia from Island Records, Stiff Records, ZTT and Sarm for the interiors. Architect Chris Bryant explains, "Alma-nac and the client were keen not to create a direct archive, instead choosing to distill the identity of each label into an abstracted language."
The color theme of each apartment is referenced by the record sleeve designs from a nearby recording studio's archive. The apartment layout is comprised of a combined living and kitchen area, large bedroom and smaller bathroom.
