When Marie Dessuant designed the Balance Vase, she wasn't concerned simply with the success of creating a decorative object with basic practicality. This whimsical piece certainly does hold a blossom; however, it was also enhanced with an unconventional dynamism for this sort of item.
Dreamed up for the Secondome Gallery, this stem holder comprises a beautiful blown glass vessel that was manufactured in the traditional Veneto method. This rests upon a bent wooden arm that seesaws over a vertical shaft. The contraption stands steady on a stiff tripod.
A small hole in the glass accommodates just one or two flowers, keeping the observer's attention on the whole quirky composition. The Balance Vase embodies a curious unbalanced composure that's utterly engaging.
