India is Unveiling Automated Baggage Counters at Airports

The Airport Authority of India will be introducing self-service baggage counters to the Biju Patnaik International Airport and 12 other airports across the country, which should play a significant part in reducing long lines.

With these self-serve travel stations, people passing through the terminals will be able to drop off their bags, as well as register and label them. Rather than using attendants, machines will be used in order to measure bags and determine if a traveler will be required to pay any fees. Any transactions that occur will be carried out using cards.

From self-service concierge apps to robotic hotel assistants, automation is sweeping the hospitality industry. While there are a few airports around the world that are now adopting baggage counters of this style, there are also terminals that have been developed for a complete self-service experience.
