Azbuka Vkusa Converted an Aisle into a Checkout-Free Zone

Zippin recently opened the first-of-its-kind cashierless store-within-a-store at the Azbuka Vkusa supermarket in Moscow. While some stores are going totally cashierless, this application sees Azbuka Vkusa converting an aisle within its store to a place where shoppers can use their mobile phone to enter, shop and then check out seamlessly. On the project, Azbuka Vkusa is working with Sberbank and Visa, so that a linked payment card may be used and shoppers can simply exit when they are done.

As the technology provider says, "As far as we can tell, it is the first ever checkout-free store in the world that is deployed using a store-within-a-store model." With this "mini store" format, retailers have the advantage of stocking small yet essential products, and reduce the need for consumers to congregate in lines.
