Tzannes Associates designed the 'Clovelly Residence,' an Australian home located in Sydney.
The architects decided on an L-shaped floor plan in order to increase solar entry and improve natural ventilation. The home also features three water tanks, shutters that control sun access, hot water solar panels and reverse brick veneer walls, among other things, all of which are intended to maximize the home's energy efficiency.
The concrete building features infill timber paneling, which helps the structure articulate itself in a direct, comprehensive manner. The sturdy materials gracefully accompany the home's natural environment. Inside, the same timber material, Tallowwood, continues in the wall linings and joinery, providing a unity and harmony between the interior and exterior spaces.
