A new social enterprise cafe in Glasgow called Milk wants to provide work experience for refugees and asylum-seeking women in the community. The idea behind the cafe was developed by local women Gabrielle Cluness and Angela Ireland, after the two friends spent time working with the asylum seeker community and observed persistent issues of unemployment and isolation.
Milk seeks to provide work for refugees and asylum-seeking women to equip them with the kind of meaningful skills that will improve their future job prospects. The cafe will also offer the women an opportunity to practice their English and to share culinary expertise with one another. Through the cafe, Cluness and Ireland hope to make Milk a place where patrons and workers can come together to foster a sense of inclusiveness in their community.
