The latest Smithsonian exhibit, titled 'No Spectators: The Art of Burning Man,' will not only be available to patrons, but also as a VR experience for people all over the world. Despite hosting millions of visitors a year, the Smithsonian American Art Museum still remains inaccessible to those unable to visit its Washington, DC, home. This new VR initiative will be run in partnership with Intel and its inaugural project will allow attendees to virtually explore the site of the annual Burning Man festival.
The No Spectators: The Art of Burning Man installation will be both a physical and VR experience, with actual installations from the festival being presented in the Renwick Gallery. The physical experience at the Smithsonian will include structures, costumes, art and jewelry from the festival, while the VR experience will give users the chance to visit the Black Rock Desert. The VR portion of No Spectators: The Art of Burning Man will give users the chance to explore a rendered version of the festival in the Android Jones Deep Playa Experience.
