The elongated and linear structure boasts gridded details, seen through its monumental facade that is clad in glass and metal fragments. Working with Istanbul's urban planners, Inter.National.Design aims to inspire the city's officials to improve its existing and decaying structures.
In the case of the Arkadia Apartments project, the structure reinvents a classic residence from the 70s and adds 12 additional units to its shell. Instead of tearing down a decaying building, the residence improves upon it and illustrates the power of practical design. The gridded architecture piece is a subtle homage to the understated and functional style pioneered by Mies Van der Rohe.
