In a collaborative effort between a group University of Tokyo students and architect Kengo Kuma, a unique 3D printing pen that creates freestanding architectural structures has been created.
The handheld printing device "can be used to create complex architectural structures out of plastic sticks." Each structure is quite durable since the pen fuses each string together using acrylic rods. The pen works in a similar fashion to a gun -- the user applies pressure to a trigger, which allows the rods to be emitted and carefully connected to one another.
This high-tech device will allow designers to drawn their ideas to-scale without using alternative time-consuming materials. The printing pen is described to be able to create "large-scale hand-drawn structures." This high-tech gadget could be the next best utensil used by architects.
