Maziar Behrooz Architecture designed the 'Arc House,' a unique family residence located in New York's East Hampton.
The home's location was tricky because of its proximity to a flight path to the local airport. The architects decided to work with, rather against, the location, whole-heartedly embracing the industrial quality of the site. They came up with an idea for a "columnless, self-supporting canopy" made from corrugated galvanized steel. The arcing silhouette allows the interior of the home to emulate the uninterrupted space of an airplane hangar. Both the architects and clients liked the idea of the public spaces being enclosed in a single room.
Other benefits to this design plan and approach included its cost-effectiveness and its rather unconventional look.
