Nutritious 3D-Printed Foods

This Food Lab Gives Healthy Ingredients a More Appetizing Form

The Smart Gastronomy Lab is currently running a series of experiments to try and give healthy ingredients a more appetizing form. While many people know that they should chow down on fruits and veggies, it can be tempting to opt for something sweet instead. This food lab is working on a way to turn unpopular food items into delicious snacks.

The Smart Gastronomy Lab uses a series of 3D printers to try and give healthy foods a more appetizing form. The goal is to create palatable food items with enhanced nutritional profiles. One such project involves producing a 3D-printed chocolate that is infused with protein-rich algae. As lab director Dorothée Goffin explains, "3-D printing will allow us to reconstitute food, and in doing so restore the pleasure of eating."

While the technology is still in the early stages, the nutritionally enhanced food items could help consumers improve their overall diets in the near future.
