AnzacLive created a chatbot that allows users to interact with a World War I soldier. News Corp Australia launched the chatbot and users can interact with Tasmanian soldier Archie Barwick. The chatbot is meant to help modern Australians learn about the personal experiences of Australians during wartime.
The News Corp Australia project has allowed users to interact with veterans, including nurses and soldiers, through Facebook posts. The chatbot is intended to give a more personal perspective from Barwick as he fights in battle on the Western Front. The chatbot is to mark the centennial of the battles of Pozieres and Fromelles which took place in July of 1916 and were the Australians' first major battles on the Western Front.
The chatbot is programmed to send periodic updates on the soldier's experience on the frontline as well as holding a conversation with users. Barwick's answers are all drawn from his personal journal entries.
