Tribal Art-Inspired Fashion

Alexander McQueen Spring 2014 Exhibits Finely Crafted Works of Art

Sarah Burton’s collection for Alexander Mcqueen Spring 2014 was inspired by the early-twentieth-century art stylings of Picasso and Mondrian. The craftsmanship in the collection was unparalleled, with hand-painted African tribal designs, ornate feather and bead designs that resembled tweed at first glance and lace beaded tights.

The silhouettes were crisply tailored but still managed to exude femininity. Models walked the runway in full-bodied skirts, form-fitting bra tops and multi-tiered dresses. Each model also wore helmet-inspired hats that were an ode to 1920s cloche hats and chunky choker necklaces. Burton also chose a powerful red, blue and white color combination that radiated off the runways. Burton took her time with the details and it certainly shows – the pieces were each painstakingly crafted to achieve an intricately pattered, well-cut, womanly collection.
