The concept was created by Dr. Romana Minozzi and his team in Italy. They collaborated with researchers and scientists to build a tile that was not only visually aesthetic, but also improved the quality of human life. Active Ceramic was the result of this endeavor.
The titanium dioxide-coated tiles use the process of photocatalysis to decompose organic and inorganic pollutants in the atmosphere. This does away with not just air pollutant molecules like mono-nitrogen oxide and volatile organic compounds, but everyday grease, dirt, odors and bacteria as well.
