Wax Atelier's Abney Effect Features Objects Made by Bio-Based Waxes

Wax Atelier is a design studio that specializes in beeswax and it is also the team behind the Abney Effect, which is a series of objects and material experiments that are made using bio-baed wax, resin, oil, dyes, and fibers -- all of these are sourced from unfelled trees.

The installation is currently on display at the studio's new workshop on the side of Abney Park. Some of the highlighting products are the lamps made from pine resin, wood-crafted wax crayons, and a range of scented waxes crafted from different parts of orange trees. Lola Lely, co-founder and designer at the studio, speaks on how trees are an influence. "That was the inspiration. Besides oxygen, paper and wood, loads of things are derived from trees. We wanted to create a retrospective of those things."
