Artist Aaron Diaz, author of the online comic Dresden Kodak, has begun work on a project that gives a unique vision to Tolkien’s Silmarillion, a collection of stories that add to the the already massive Mythos that weaves together the world of Middle Earth seen in The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings.
Aaron Diaz’s Silmarillion project is an ambitious attempt to provide an illustration for each and every chapter of the volume and provide supplementary illustrations to help flesh out the characters and the world in general. Diaz also hopes to add greater representation of women and people of color to Tolkien’s world and mythology.
The resulting artwork is visually arresting. It is dark, vibrant and emotionally moving all at once.
