Death architecture is not a term people hear all the time, yet that is the best way to describe the A Place of Remembrance concept. This project rethinks the design of headstones in a way that is incredibly minimalist and modern. Most striking of all is the fact that the tombs are marked with giant sculptural names that symbolize the deceased.
Rising from the ground in a dynamic way, the A Place of Remembrance concept focuses on the weight people's names have. Although recording other information such as birth and death dates is common as well, it is often the name that brings to mind the individual and all that she or he represented. This concept allows people to celebrate the deceased in a much more personal manner. It was conceived by Michael Jantzen.
