For the professional plant nursery office working at 52 Kubik, it is essential to reflect the best garden possible. Taking this reflection literally, Austrian design studio Josep and architect Gerhard Haumer built 52 Kubik with a mirrored facade that surrounds the nursery's show garden, accentuating the carefully cultivated beauty of the front yard area.
52 Kubik is located in the small Autrian town of Modling, about 14 kilometers south of Vienna. The building itself has several branches that emanate from the central foyer, and two of these branches spread around either side of the nursery's show garden. By covering these surrounding walls in bright, chrome mirrors, the show garden seems to expand infinitely in toward the building. The complete effect is one of a perfectly manicured forest that reaches impossibly into the wood-covered building.
