Typographer Ben Johnston and 3D printer artist Mark Simmons have created a visually striking 3D Typography sculpture. Johnston sketched the design ad chose the typography before Simmons plated and printed the disc.
In plain solid white, the fine details and lines of the sculpture stick out and show the attention paid to each line and letter and how all the elements would come together in the 3D typography sculpture. Two animated sculptures were created (they would rotate on screen showing the front and back of the text.) The first says "The mountains are calling and I must go" while the second has the phrase "When the wolves are silent and the moon is howling."
These sculptures show the physical beauty of language and the importance of typography in our lives.
