Google used 3D scans to preserve historical sites that could be damaged in the future due to climate change. The company is launching a collection of art and culture with over 50 exhibitions, the collection is meant to highlight the effects of climate change on historical sites. Google's collection is aptly named 'Heritage on the Edge.'
The collection is comprised of five locations which were technologically recreated using 3D scans, photogrammetry as well as drone footage. The list of locations includes Easter Island, the old town of Edinburgh, as well as the ancient town Chan Chan.
Google's efforts in this area could preserve human history for generations to come. Additionally, the exhibition will shed light on some of the issues related to climate change that are not often considered or discussed.
