1for1 Water is a for-profit social enterprise operating on the buy-one-give-one model and has committed to providing clean water for someone in Haiti for every bottle of 1for1 Water purchased. Taking their mission for social good a step further, they've created water bottles from recyclable and biodegradable materials, making their product gentle on the environment as well.
The founders behind 1for1 Water, Matt Keller and Brett Trapp, spotted an opportunity when they looked at global clean water stats. About a billion people do not have access to safe drinking water, 42,000 die each weak as a result of drinking toxic water, and $15-17 billion is spent in the US each year on bottled water purchases. Matt and Brett's idea was to leverage a portion of those astronomical bottled water profits to help solve a major world issue.
"For every 75 bottles of 1for1 Water sold we are able to provide one person with access to clean, safe drinking water for life" the social business says. "This is done by way of a bio-sand filter installed in the home that can support multiple children and adults." 1for1 Water says up to 10 people can benefit from a single filter for a lifetime. Their first water project will take place in Haiti.
"You can enter in your bottle code and find out when and where you have impacted lives," the site says. "Our commitment is to put your support to use and show you within 90 days of your purchase. Measurable impact you can see!"
The company is currently only available in Atlanta, where the company is based, but their Facbeook page says it will enter other markets soon.
