Maverick Slacklines has been riding high after a death-defying stunt for ITV’s new show ‘Red or Black?’ this week. Maverick team riders and highline specialists Phil Baxter and Alun Freem took to the sky 100 feet up between the turrets of the historic Eastnor castle, nestled in the countryside of Herefordshire. The race was on for Baxter and Freem to cross the line to the turret and back, then raise the red or black flag.
This highline tested Maverick Slacklines to the limit; the highest and longest they have ever seen. Although the guys were tethered to a safety harness, they never relied on it once, choosing instead to catch the line on the way down with legs or arms to make it quicker to get back on and continue the race. Slacklining is still a relatively new sport, and this castle setup shows how versatile the rigging can be. A cross between tightrope and trampoline, Slacklines can be walked at great heights and lengths in awe-inspiring locations around the world.
