Taking the art of hair to a whole new surreal level, Yuni Kim Lang creates looks that are appropriately displayed in an art gallery, not on the fashion runway. Twisted, knotted and tangled, her creations are not necessarily beautiful by society's standards, but they are beautiful from an artistic standpoint.
Yuni Kim Lang is inspired by folktales and superstitions about hair. By straddling the line between real and surreal, Beautiful Decay notes that she shows "us how we can separate, expand and re-imagine parts of the self." Not to mention that she touches upon notions of perfection, beauty, stereotype and personal identity.
Yuni Kim Lang is currently completing the MFA program in Metals at Cranbrook in Michigan.
