It is well known that a little patience can go a long way, but most would agree that ten years of waiting for something is a tad too long; however, this is not the case with the Zhang Yu ‘Fingerprint Series.’
This Chinese artist has been working since over a decade ago on this project and all of his paintings are made solely from fingerprints. Yes, tiny little fingerprints. Zhang Yu spends tireless hours placing his finger repeatedly over large areas of rice paper and limits his colors to shades or black, white and red making enormous, room-filling masterpieces that provide a unique painted effect when finished. He’s an avant-garde individual in experimental painting and has used his fingerprint style in a variety of books, performances and installations. The Zhang Yu Fingerprint Series definitely sets the artist in a tough spot if he ever turned to crime as a career but with his artistic ability, he should be more than fine.
