E-commerce giant Amazon seeks to revolutionize the warehouse experience by incorporating challenging workplace games that "help reduce the tedium of its physically demanding jobs." In addition to gamifing work, these incredibly playful insertions are also geared toward improving efficiency and overall employee performance.
The highly engaging workplace games are encouraged but not mandatory for "pickers" and "stowers." The interactive features are displayed on small screens at employee workstations and they register the completion of tasks. Inspired by Tetris, the system can pit individuals, teams, and entire floors against each other to see who can get the job done the fastest. Employees who choose to participate in the workplace games are later rewarded with points, virtual badges, and "other goodies."
