The 'Nixie' System Uses Drones to Lower the Cost Of Testing Water

Reign Maker, a startup based in New York, has developed a drone-based water-sampling device that makes it possible to use quadcopter technology to go about collecting and retrieving samples in a manner that is quicker and more efficient than manual methods.
The system revolves around the use of the Nixie Base, which blends a docking system with a water receptacle. The Nixie Base can be used in conjunction with DJI Matrice 600 and Matrice 300 RTK drones, although Reign Maker also offers its own drone and drone pilot services for an added fee.
This water-sampling device makes it possible to position the water collection bottle two feet below the surface, at which point the drone can be flown back to land or its bottle swapped out for an empty one.
What's great about this system is that it significantly reduces the cost of collecting samples, making the preorder price of $850 well worth the outlay.
