Rick Joy Architects Build a Single-Storey Waterfront Holiday Home
Kalin Ned — April 13, 2018 — Art & Design
American firm Rick Joy Architects builds a wonderfully sound waterfront holiday home on an island in the Turks and Caicos archipelago. The familial residence embraces the beauty of the natural landscape as the structure is concrete and minimalist in design. Void of architectural embellishments, the native plants and vegetation create a woeful juxtaposition.
Rick Joy Architects design the facade with privacy in mind. The waterfront holiday home consists of open-air passages, created by separated concrete volumes. As the communal rooms enjoy glazed walls that offer breathtaking views of the Atlantic ocean, the rest of the structure is hidden behind layers of concrete. They, in turn, allow for the coastal breeze to freely circulate on the property premises.
