These Wala Lang illustrations are extremely adorable for those who quickly glance at them. The youthful anime-looking girls of each image sport doe eyes and pixie-like noses and mouths and are simply the definition of cute. It isn’t until viewers realize that the females in this black and white series are actually wounded by arrows that the images take on a far more complex and dark connotation to them.
Though most aren’t mortally wounded, the girls in these Wala Lang renderings indeed have their flesh pierced by sharp arrows, which draw blood from every single victim. The hardest images to look at are the ones in which Lang has the arrows penetrating the torso of her subjects. The heart-shaped ends of the arrows would suggest they were launched using Cupid’s bow.
