Alesis' Vortex Wireless 2 is a modern day keytar built for modern musicians. This MIDI keytar controller comes with the standard 37 keys, fader switches and FX buttons, but also enters the 21st century with a host of technological amenities. Each key is velocity-sensitive with aftertouch, the instrument is USB compatible, and features velocity-sensitive pads, tilt-sensors, a MIDI-assignable touchstrip, zone, sustain and octave controls on the neck. The keytar also comes with a companion app that allows for the saving and loading of presets as well as full control mapping. The design has also been modernized, with a more angular design and multi-color lights, this revamped keytar is sure to impress.
The Alesis Vortex Wireless 2 is one of the few modern keytars to hit the market, but it is not the only one. The Yamaha Vocaloid keytar was announced recently and received quite a bit of praise for bringing back the almost forgotten instrument. The resurgence of keytars can be seen in modern music, thanks to bands like Autograf and Ookay, and it seems as though the nostalgia for the instrument has paved over the cliche it once held.
