Google Cloud has launched 'Visual Inspection AI,' its latest B2B Internet-of-Things (IoT) development. The dynamic new tool is designed to help manufacturers, consumer packaged goods companies, and other commercial businesses cut costs, reduce product defects, and improve quality control.
The new tool builds on AutoML, Google Cloud's signature AI product that companies worldwide use to assist with quality control operations. Utilizing Google Cloud's innovative computer vision technology, 'Visual Inspection AI' is intended to help companies cut inspection costs by locating product defects early in the production process. In doing so, the tool can work to increase yields, reduce rework, and cut product returns and repair costs.
Setting it apart from other AI inspection tools, Google Cloud's requires no expertise in computer vision or AI subject matter. It also increases in accuracy over time as it is exposed to more products and only requires 10 human-labeled images to build accurate models.
"Google is one of those companies that has the potential to bring together IT, OT, and an ecosystem of partners that manufacturers need to deploy AI on the shop floor at scale," said Kevin Prouty, the group vice president at IDC.
