For those unfamiliar with the term bindle, which is what Urban Picnic is inspired by, it is the common stick and sack combo used by old-time vagabonds. Often appearing in popular culture from movies to cartoons, it is surprising that there aren't more modern designs on the market like Urban Picnic.
Created by Dutch designer Jody Kocken, Urban Picnic beautifully combines the bindle with a bento box concept. A series of stackable containers fits perfectly into the leather tote, which also doubles as a fabric platter to eat off of. The stick itself is made out of wood and has been ergonomically shaped to rest on the shoulder comfortably. Nostalgic, imaginative and sophisticated, hopefully Urban Picnic is picked up by a manufacturer soon.
