In partnership with the Bristol Robotics Laboratory, researchers at the University of Bristol have engineered an innovative apparatus for conducting Clinical Breast Examinations (CBE) with remarkable precision and sensitivity levels. This device was designed to mimic the forces applied by human medical examiners, allowing individuals who require regular breast examinations to do so without any human interference.
"The first question that we want to answer as part of this is whether a specialized manipulator can be demonstrated to have the dexterity necessary to palpate a realistic breast size and shape," Jenkinson said in a press release.
The development of the manipulator required state-of-the-art methodologies, including advanced techniques such as 3D printing and Computerized Numerical Control (CNC) machining. This innovation hopes to revolutionize the accessibility and reliability of breast health assessments, offering women an easier way to monitor their well-being.
