Honda Robotics has introduced the 'UNI-ONE,' a hands-free mobility device that operates similarly to a Segway. The device lifts users to a semi-seated position at eye level with others, allowing hands-free control through body weight shifting or a joystick. The UNI-ONE features advanced self-balancing technology and sensors that enable the user to move in any direction based on postural movements. The device also changes its height, making mobility more fun and natural when interacting with people at different levels.
The UNI-ONE was first unveiled in 2022 at the Japan Mobility Show, and has since been in its testing phase for over a year. Honda envisions UNI-ONE having applications at theme parks, entertainment facilities and retail spaces across the U.S. The company has also combined the UNI-ONE with virtual reality to create the world’s first extended reality mobility experience, which debuted at SXSW 2024. The theme park activations utilizing the UNI-ONE are particularly interesting, as Honda Robotics pairs the mobility chair with a mixed reality headset for a fully guided and immersive experience.
