American multinational company Boeing has delivered to the U.S. Navy a high-tech autonomous undersea vehicle in the form of the aptly named Extra Large Uncrewed Undersea Vehicle (XLUUV), whose nickname of 'Orca' speaks to its intelligent operation, adaptability in various underwater environments and devastatingly efficient and effective capabilities.
This undersea vehicle is capable of spending long periods of time underwater, and is fitted with the capability of taking on modules that can be up to 10 meters long. With a top speed of 15 km/h, this submarine that scour the waters for distances well in excess of 10,000 km at a time, with its high-tech systems capable of carrying on navigation without constant human input.
As the biggest autonomous submarine ever constructed, the 'XLUUV' well and truly marks a milestone in military undersea vehicle development.
