The New Uber Safety Features Aim to Better Protect Riders
Justin Lam — April 17, 2018 — Tech
Uber is currently the most popular ride-hailing service in the world and the new Uber safety features are sure to increase this popularity. Several new features are set to appear on the app in the summer of 2018 and will introduce a Saftey Center. The Saftey Center will be a dedicated section on the app where users can set up features like trusted contacts and 911 assistance. Both of these features are new to the app and will allow the location of the user to be shared with loved ones as well as the police.
To further enhance the suite of new Uber safety features, the app has partnered with RapidSOS, an emergency response system linking connected devices to 911 and first responders. This system will make contacting significantly easier and users can do so at the press of a button. Tests of the Uber safety features will be pilot tested in Denver, but will then roll out to all countries that support Uber.
