The Iso-Lounge Chair was created by Jasper Morrison in collaboration with London-based furniture brand Isokon Plus. The group of designers banned together to push the limits of physics with this chair design that seemingly defies gravity.
As a testament to the unparalleled strength of plywood, the manufactured chair was engineered to have surprising strength. After a course of over 18 months, the team removed layers of the plywood's thin wood veneer sheets in some areas to increase the chair's flexibility. Moreover, the team added layers of veneer to other areas to further strengthen its structure. The result is a slim silhouette design. After experimenting with orientation, the Iso-Lounge Chair took its form as a minimalist sloping structure.
