Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance from France is the brainpower behind the Burnt Cork Collection of furniture. The designer's inspiration came from his 2017 road trip from his home country to Portugal. During which time, the designer passed through the mountainous areas of Pedrógão Grande, where devastating forest fires decimated the landscape.
Thus, the Burnt Cork Collection pays tribute to the region through the use of resilient Portuguese cork. Duchaufour-Lawrance was especially inspired upon visiting a family-owned cork production facility, where he discovered the beauty and resilience of burnt cork. From there, agglomerated cork techniques were used and adapted to create the collection. The handmade furniture showcases the gradience of burnt cork with a contrasting refined finish. The collection features lounge chairs, ergonomic backrest chairs, a dining table, benches, and stools.
