Finish design studio Marimekko works in collaboration with Swedish designer Matti Klenell on the Syksy series of glassware. It is inspired by nature and the phenomena of rain, which is a common theme seen throughout prints by the design house. It is now transformed into a series of mouth-blown tumblers, goblets, and carafes. Throughout the capsule, there is a functional theme that is influenced by the Nordic autumn rain specifically.
These can be seen in the interpreted drizzles and even ranging to the drenched downpour through the organic patterns on the glassware. Klanell explains that “Marimekko is a world leading manufacturer of prints in both fashion and interior design, so when being asked to collaborate with this great Finnish institution it felt natural to focus on patterns, and in particular the interaction of two-dimensional ornaments and three-dimensional shape. The Syksy series brings a touch of silent calm, perhaps even a bit of melancholy, that give the items an interesting unique expression.”
