Design studio SANAA introduces a new extension of the Sydney Modern, an art gallery that is now added with a series of pavilions that step down carefully to the Sydney Harbour. It is set to officially open its doors to the public on December 3rd and has updates that contrast the current neo-classical architecture. It has two buildings that are joined by a public art garden space.
SANAA principals Kazuyo Sejima and Ryue Nishizawa state that "We aim to design an art museum building that is harmonious with its surroundings, one that breathes with the city, the park and the harbour." The building has about 7,000 square meters of gallery space and overlooks the Sydney Harbour.
