Stockpile Designs Blows People Away With Their Lights and Tables
Meghan Young — March 8, 2012 — Art & Design
Since people drive hummers and wear military jackets, there should be no reason why these same people won't be enamored with Stockpile Designs' bomb-made furniture. The New York-based design studio has taken old, surplus ordnunce and repurposed them into attention-grabbing lamps and tables that are sure to blow people away.
Founded by self-described air force brat and Etsy-user Jake Wright, Stockpile Designs has become a platform for him to explore his roots as well as his love of design. It also allows him to experiment with unusual materials in a traditional way. He writes, "I take military equipment out of its aggressive context, concealing the function while highlighting the form." He has used everything from small cluster bombs to big WWII naval rounds.
