The Speed Vest shows the speed at which you are riding your bike in large glowing numbers on the back of the vest. It recently won first prize at the Hub Bike Shop’s Bike Gadget Contest in Minneapolis, MN.
A wheel speed sensor transmits the information to the electro-luminescent wiring in the vest. It lights up thanks to a simple 9 volt battery which can last for up to six hours.
It’s a cool idea if you want to show off just how fast you can ride your bicycle, but will it be used for much else? You certainly wouldn’t want to see this on a motorbike jacket, as you would just be making it easier for the police to see if you are speeding!
