The LaserPipe is a technologically advanced 'snake robot' that is capable of going into pipes and weld them from the inside.
The practice of welding pipes in cramped and tricky environments can be extremely dangerous, not to mention time-consuming and expensive. The LaserPipe gets around this by letting humans put their feet up while it slithers inside pipes and welds them using super-powered industrial lasers.
Developed by OC Robotics in collaboration with TWI Ltd, the LaserPipe is equipped with remote location sensors that allow the human operator to steer the head of the robot knowing full well that the body will follow behind it in the same path.
This snake robot is a handy invention because it keeps human operators in control but out of danger when performing tricky industrial work.
