Ring Filed a Patent with the FCC for a Smart Light Bulb Design
Daniel Johnson — December 10, 2019 — Tech
Ring, the Amazon-owned company, recently filed patents for a smart light bulb design. The smart light bulb will be able to connect to Bluetooth, which will enable the device to be connected to other electronics in the area. The design appears to be similar to floodlights, which means it could be used in conjunction with Ring's other security-focused products. The company has not indicated a release date for the light bulb.
The smart light bulb brings Ring into a new direction, as historically the company has created doorbells and security cameras. Additionally, previous lighting products from Ring consisted of an entire unit. The new product is different as it is a single lightbulb that can be used in whatever lighting the customer already owns.
