Belgian design studio Ae-Architecten works on the renovation project of elevating the SL House located in Ghent, Belgium. The detached home is defined by the newly glazed yellow bricks and concrete lining taking over the spacious living area. The team converted the house into a single-family structure that was previously divided into two flats back in the 80s when it was originally built.
Ae-Architecten broke down the additions and opened up the interior space with exposed concrete materials. The studio's co-founder Jan Baes tells Dezeen "The construction looked quite solid at first glance, but it was a lot worse than we initially thought, and spatially a lot of quality had probably been lost in the division into apartments. The new in-situ concrete structure, made using rough-sawn timber formwork, allows for greater flexibility and relationships between spaces."
