The very first transatlantic voyage via kite-power by a cargo ship has taken place. Leaving from Hamburg Germany to Guanta, Venezuela. The “SkySail†kite is a massive 160 meters in area which will pull the equally massive 132 meter Multi Purpose Heavy Lift Carrier MS “Beluga SkySailsâ€, across the Atlantic. The SkySail Cuts back on Emissions immensely, creating a greener voyage. The sail assists in the engines ease of pushing the ship as the sail pulls, saving up to 20% of their daily fuel intake. Beluga Skysails expects two more ships to be pulled by 2009, and outfit 1500 ships with the system by 2015.
