SF-SO Developed a New Range of Thin Modular Shelving Units
Amy Duong — January 22, 2025 — Art & Design
Industrial design duo SF-SO has developed a series of modular bent-metal storage units that are extremely thin measuring only 1.6mm. Dubbed the Thin Furniture Collection, it is designed by founders Jae-hoon Jung and Ho-young Joo and is designed with consideration paid to manufacturing and distribution. The capsule is comprised of a storage unit and a wall shelf that are made from mild steel sheets.
Jae-hoon Jung speaks about the design to Dezeen, noting "The designs emphasise minimalism and precision, achieving a paper-like aesthetic while maintaining functionality and strength. From a distance, the storage unit appears almost weightless. Not only is sheet metal bending a straightforward manufacturing method, but the resulting product can be easily assembled and disassembled using simple hardware. This allows the product to be packed as compactly as possible, enabling efficient global shipping."
