Google Added a Sensitive Ad Category Section for Filtering Content

Google has released a new customization setting for its suite of applications, titled the 'Sensitive Ad Category' feature. This feature allows users to turn off content that is polarizing or content that can be harmful, such as advertisements related to alcohol, dating, pregnancy, or gambling. This content can have adverse reactions on individuals with experiences with those specific sectors.

While the settings section specifies that it applies primarily to YouTube advertisements, Google has stated that the filtration system will work across its suite of applications, including Google searches. Google has stressed that this feature is not absolute, meaning that the content may still be visible through other multi-purpose or company-wide advertisements. For example, disabling the gambling setting will not explicitly show an advertisement from a gambling company, but an advertisement from an alcohol company that takes place in a casino may still be visible.
