The 'Sense+' Dock Saves You from Fires
Alexander Lam — June 28, 2013 — Tech
Turning your smartphone into a smoke detector, the Sense+ dock watches out for fires while charging your phone. The Sense+ was created because the majority of smoke detectors have a hard time detecting smoldering fires. Since these detectors use ionization, they are not as responsive to fires that start slowly. Sense+ solves this by using a photoelectric detector.
If the dock senses smoke, it sounds an alarm and alerts you. In the even that you don't respond, Sense+ uses your phone to call a preset list of numbers. In addition, it also gives you the option to call emergency services. To further enhance your security, the dock comes with a backup power source in case your main power line fails.
