Paris-based interior architect and designer Stéphane Parmentier's latest project is the Scala collection, designed for Italian label Giobagnara. The Scala collection is a leather furniture series comprised of two three-legged tables, a three-legged stool, and two cabinets set on thick solid wooden legs. The ribbed leather structure detail is inspired by a building that Parmentier has encountered in Milan. The building had a stacked shape made in stone, so the designer reimagines the concept with leather.
The biggest challenge in crafting the Scala collection was getting the leather to smoothly adhere onto the curved wooden surfaces. The leather was humidified, stretched, and glues carefully onto the chairs to achieve the smooth and light look. The Scala collection embodies a apparent simplicity, but has plenty of handcrafted finishes behind it.
