Products like vehicles performing satellite communication is surely the next step in creating a world that's full of connected products, which is what this new Toyota Mirai looks to accomplish. Toyota partnered with Kymeta to create the vehicle that was unveiled at the North American International Autoshow (NAIAS) as a concept of what could come in 2017.
The connected vehicle would add a data communication module into the mix to accommodate a rising need for satellite communication functionality. This kind of technology will likely play a huge role in automotive transportation in the future as vehicles are only expected to become smarter, more connected and autonomous as the years go on.
Founder of Kymeta, Dr. Nathan Kundtz, explained during NAIAS, "The Kymeta antenna has no moving parts and uses software to track satellites that move across the horizon. Kymeta technology will be designed to deliver a terabyte per month of data."
